1st MKW swim meet of the year
Our first meet is this Monday at Lake St Louis! Look for a meet sheet soon that will tell you and your child which races he/she will be swimming. We recommend writing those races on your swimmers’ arm with a sharpie so they can remember them. They will likely be in 4 total races for this meet.
Our warm-ups for the meet are 5:00pm with a meet start time of 5:30pm. Please allow yourself ample time to park and be prepared to walk from your car. Lake St Louis address: 100 Congac 63367
Tomorrow is going to be HOT! Please make sure that your swimmer (and you) stay hydrated during the meet. Meets are several hours long (usually 4 hours at least – a little more with bigger teams like Lake St Louis).
What to bring:
Towels, goggles, caps, blankets, chairs, sunscreen...whatever you will need to be comfortable in the heat!
Coolers are not allowed at the meet! You may also bring $$ cash for concessions. They take both cash and credit.
If you are scheduled to volunteer for this meet, please be sure to check in with Greta Bishline on the pool deck so you get credit for your volunteer duty. She will be on the pool deck in a red Cardinals cap and white MKW shirt. All first half workers need to be in their spots BEFORE the meet begins so that we can begin on time. If you work the first half and your kid finishes their races early, you are free to leave. If you are a 2nd half worker, you have to stay till the end of the meet.
Lake St Louis rules:
- Visiting teams are assigned the lake side of the pool, and the area around the baby pool. LSL swimmers and families are assigned the clubhouse side of the pool, which includes the area under the clubhouse deck. No one should set up chairs or watch the meet from either end of the pool, unless they are outside of the pool fence.
- Due to limited space, and concessions considerations, no coolers are allowed at our home meets
- Parking in the main clubhouse parking lot is restricted to Lake Saint Louis Community Association members only. All others should utilize available on-street parking.
- No swimmers may use the lake during the meet. We are unable to monitor swimmers outside of the pool deck, and we also need to keep sand out of the pool.
If you are a veteran swim family, PLEASE help the new families and swimmers!! We've all been there and remember how crazy that first meet feels!
Disqualification (DQ)...we have stroke judges watching the swimmers. All swimmers at some point or another will be DQ'd. This is how they learn and grow. If this happens, the stroke judge will TRY to speak to your swimmer. This is not always possible as the events move quickly. If you and/or your swimmer want to understand why they were DQ'd, please ask a coach, Brandi Smith or Nick Weigand. No parent is allowed to approach a stroke judge, only the league representatives (Sue McDaniel or Diana Unrein for MKW). We will gladly get the information you need and explain it to your child. Many of the kids are swimming for the first time or may be trying new strokes for the first time. We want them to try new things and learn from their mistakes!
Last, but not least, summer swim is about FUN! We want your child to walk away from the meet with a smile! We, as parents, tend to take things so seriously. Yes, we want them to learn. Yes, we want them to be competitive. There is room for all of that in summer swim, but mostly it is about being with friends, family, and creating a FUN atmosphere that kids will want to return to each summer!!!
