    Reminders for the First Meet

Monday is our first home meet of the year! The heat sheets and races listed by swimmer will be sent this weekend. You can also download the SwimTopia app (the free app is all that you need. The pro version of the app is NOT necessary.) to see your child’s races and keep track of the meet. We recommend writing those races on your swimmers’ arm with a sharpie so they can remember them. They will likely be in 4 total races for this meet. Please help the younger kids keep track of what races they are in and send them to the bullpen (on the pool deck) when they need to be there. The announcer will announce races that need to line up in the bullpen and there is also a board showing what race we are up to in the bullpen area.

Our warm-ups for the meet are 4:30pm with a meet start time of 5pm. Please allow yourself ample time to park and be prepared to walk from your car. Reminder – this is at the Monticello Estates pool.

Please pay attention to the no parking signs in the Monticello neighborhood. We can only park on one side of the street so that emergency vehicles can fit!

During the meet, please refrain from allowing kids or families onto the tennis courts. Additionally, we kindly request that you be courteous to our Monticello neighbors and stay off their property. There will be signs indicating private property boundaries, particularly near the house at the corner of the driveway entry to the pool. While the parking lot offers ample space for kids to play, let's ensure we respect our neighbors' spaces.

Please make sure that your swimmer (and you) stay hydrated during the meet. Meets are several hours long. It will be cooler once the sun starts to set, so please bring sweats and or/blankets for your kids as they will be cold after their races.

What to bring: Towels, goggles, caps, blankets, chairs, sunscreen...whatever you will need to be comfortable in the heat! You may possibly want a hoodie for your child if they get chilly after the sun goes down. Please bring your chairs to this meet. We crash in the parking lot and around the outside of the pool area. There is NO parking in the lot during meets.

Our concessions are cash only. We will have the following for sale:

    Water $1

    Soda $1

    Gatorade $2

    Snow Cone $2

    Candy $2 each or 2/$3

    Cotton Candy $2

    Chips $1

    Nachos $3

    Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich $6

Walking Taco $4 (Fritos, Chili, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, & Sour Cream)

If you are scheduled to volunteer for this meet, please be sure to check in with the board member on duty on the pool deck so you get credit for your volunteer duty. All first half workers need to be in their spots before the meet begins so that we can begin on time. If you work the first half and your kid finishes their races early, you are free to leave after you complete your first half duties. If you are a 2nd half worker, you will have to stay till the end of the meet.

If you are a veteran swim family, please help the new families and swimmers! We've all been there and remember how crazy that first meet feels!

Coach Caroline and Coach Jacobb will be on the side of the pool. After each kid races, they should go check in with them so they can get feedback on their race.

Disqualification (DQ): we have stroke judges watching the swimmers. All swimmers at some point or another will be DQ'd. This is how they learn and grow. If this happens, the stroke judge will TRY to speak to your swimmer. This is not always possible as the events move quickly. If you and/or your swimmer want to understand why they were DQ'd, please ask a coach or board member. No parent is allowed to approach a stroke judge, only the league representatives (Sue McDaniel or Greg Tilton for MKW). We will gladly get the information you need and explain it to your child. Many of the kids are swimming for the first time or may be trying new strokes for the first time. We want them to try new things and learn from their mistakes!

Last, but not least, summer swim is about FUN! We want your child to walk away from the meet with a smile! While we value learning and healthy competition, creating a fun and enjoyable atmosphere for the kids to return to each summer is our primary goal. Please keep this in mind throughout the meet.
